Passport to Adventure

So the next step in getting my Girl Scout troop to Switzerland this coming winter is to get a passport for those who don’t have one.  I learned a few things visiting the U.S. Department of State website this week.  Found out the cost to obtain or renew a passport went up in July 2010.  The application fee for an adult passport book is $110 plus a $25 execution fee if it’s a first time application.  The fee to obtain or renew a passport for a minor under age 16 is $80, plus the $25 execution fee whether it's for the first time OR a renewal.  I also discovered that new passport application forms will be available February 1, but up until then the old forms may be submitted.

If you’ve never applied for a passport for your child(ren) before, know that even newborns and infants need their own individual passport to travel internationally by air.  Minors under 16 must renew their passport every 5 years.

Passport photos are only $4.99 at Costco, so I think the troop will have a little Friday night get-together for pizza and passport pictures next week!  Another step towards our big trip!
